Australia’s first
In 2011, SITA-MediCollect became the first company in Australia licenced to recover single-use medical devices.

Cytotoxic Waste

In accordance with national standards, SITA-MediCollect can supply and collect cytotoxic waste containers that are clearly labelled and colour coded.

Containers and bins to suit your needs

SITA-MediCollect can provide various sized purple cytotoxic sharp containers, as well as 120 litre and 240 litre containers for larger collection needs.

All purple cytotoxic waste containers are marked with the white cytotoxic symbol representing a cell in late telophase.

Collection

As cytotoxins are powerful substances, all materials involved in cytotoxic treatment should be disposed in the clearly marked purple waste containers. This includes any used IV drops, syringes, vials, ampoules and other containers, as well as swabs, caps and protective equipment.

SITA-MediCollect understands that as cytotoxic substances are destructive to living cells, they should be handled with care at all times and managed accordingly.

Treatment

All cytotoxic waste collected by SITA-MediCollect is incinerated as required by law.

What is cytotoxic waste?

Cytotoxic waste is material or drugs which are carcinogenic, cytostatic, cytotoxic, mutagenic and/or teratogenic. Cytotoxic waste also includes materials associated with the administration of cytotoxins such as needles, syringes, intravenous appliances, ampoules, vials, gauzes, caps, gloves and swabs.
